One of the best things about the internet is how quickly we can find new talent at the drop of a hat.
On the one hand, we can look up new artists and performers near us to see when and where we might be able to catch them.
On the other hand, sometimes the internet is at its best when it shows us things we might never have seen otherwise—things that our friends and family share from around the world that somehow make it in front of us.
The video we’re talking about today more likely falls in that second category.
The clip was posted in August, 2019 and was taken at a classical piano recital.
More specifically, the clip begins with young pianist Elisey Mysin of the Central School of Music at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Theater.
Though Mysin may not be known to people all around the world, Mysin is certainly one of the most skilled piano performers in the world! He has been playing piano since he was a little boy and is widely considered a prodigy on the instrument.
In the performance we’re talking about today, he’s only eight years old.
As the video begins, the whole audience applauds as he walks across the stage and takes a seat on the piano bench.
Although the show is mostly about Mysin, he’s joined by an entire orchestra behind him. The group is scheduled to play Mozart’s “Piano Concerto No. 3 in D Major.”
At the beginning, the string section plays all kinds of beautiful melodies as Mysin waits for his cue to enter as well. Although the strings were amazing, the entire composition changes as Mysin plays his first keys.
From the very first notes, it’s clear that he’s incredibly talented!
Although Mozart’s composition itself is amazing, the way Mysin plays is so gentle and delicate… while still packing plenty of punch.
Despite being so young, he’s a master at controlling emotion and tone as his hands slide up and down the keys. After a while, the strings mostly drop out and it’s just Mysin playing.
In the later parts of the song, one of his hands plays a flurry of notes while the other one plays an accompanying part. At one point, he gets a break in the action and sits down on the bench waiting to play the next part.
Before long, he’s back in the action!
At the very end of the song, he plays a long trill all the way up and down the piano with delicate and intentional feeling.
After that, the string section takes up their bows one more time and strikes their final notes. With that, the crowd gives them all a huge round of applause! Since the video was loaded online, it has been viewed more than eight million times and it’s easy to see why.
Although plenty of us work for an entire lifetime to master a musical instrument, Mysin seems to have already done it at an incredibly young age! Towards the end, he even walks back out onstage and takes a second bow—this young man has a bright future ahead of him.
