Training to be a world-class drummer takes a lot of hard work, dedication and time.
For most people, they have to abide by Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000 hours theory.
But every now and then, someone is gifted with incredible talent.
That’s true for five-year-old Justin Wilson II.
By the time he was just four, he had already mastered the Lenny Kravtiz classic “Fly Away” on drums.
He was so good that he was invited to perform on Ellen for a live audience.
A year later, he’s come back to show off his amazing skills again with a new song.
Justin is a very enthusiastic little guy!
He’s not shy about joking back and forth with Ellen or being the center of attention on stage in front of a lot of strangers.
When asked what song he would perform, he tells the audience it would be another Lenny Kravitz hit, “Are You Gonna Go My Way.”
But then he corrects himself.
“Or you can call it Are You Gonna Go My Wayyyyyyy, he says, giggling and pointing in the audience at his parents. “That’s what you do!”
He then coughs one of those hilarious kid coughs where it comes out of nowhere and they don’t cover their mouths or anything (this was pre-COVID, of course).
Ellen offers him some water and Justin says it’s the “most disgusting thing he’s ever tasted” with a cheeky grin.
Ellen looks shocked and asks him why it’s disgusting (water?) and he says it was just a joke.
“I’m so bad at humor, I never know what a joke is,” Ellen replies.
Then it’s time for the big performance—Justin takes his place at his drum set.
The original Lenny Kravitz track plays in the background while Justin drums along.
He doesn’t even have to look at what he’s doing!
He doesn’t look focused or nervous—he’s comfortable looking up at the audience with a big smile on his face while he goes to town on the kit.
You can tell this kid really likes to drum.
And then it comes time for little Justin’s big surprise.
Lenny Kravitz appears on stage looking as cool as always and the audience starts roaring.
But Justin doesn’t seem to notice and keeps on playing.
When Lenny comes around within his view, Justin has to do a double-take, and his jaw drops.
He can’t believe his eyes!
But the crazy kid doesn’t stop playing!
Not until Lenny comes over behind the drum kit to give him a high five, that is.
Lenny picks him up and takes him back over to Ellen.
The enthusiastic Justin can hardly contain himself he’s so blown away by what’s happening.
He’s meeting his hero!
Lenny tells Justin that he’s a big fan and has been keeping up with his videos on YouTube.
They high five so hard Lenny’s sunglasses fall off.
But that’s not the end of all the fun for little Justin.
As we all know, Ellen always goes above and beyond.
She’s heard he loves Spiderman, and rolls out another big surprise to the stage.
It’s a gigantic display full of cool kid’s Spiderman-themed merch!
There are backpacks, stuffed toys, pillows, a lunch box, games and more!
Justin can hardly believe his good luck.
Do you think he’s more excited about meeting Lenny Kravitz…or the Spiderman stuff?
