Ellen DeGeneres recently welcomed a talented 12-year-old singer from Cardiff, UK and introduced him to the American audience.
Reuben de Maid comes from the Llandaff district and just loves and adores wearing make-up and being on the stage. Reuben has received tons of praise from Ellen and the audience because the boy refuses to change who he is. Aside from that, his phenomenal voice is truly remarkable.
“I absolutely love this kid from Wales – his voice, his character, his uniqueness, all of it,” Ellen said on her Facebook page.
The talented boy brilliantly performed the song ‘And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going’ from Dreamgirls on the Ellen Show and also performed on the tv show ‘Little Big Shots’, which is also produced by Ellen.
The popular talk show host also interviewed Reuben after his amazing performance and they chatted about his talented and clear voice, his personality and what makes him so unique.
“I have been singing since I could talk,” Reuben proudly said.
“I begged my mum for a karaoke machine and one day she bought it. My sister and brother were frustrated and they listened to it 24/7 blasting,” he added.
Reuben, who just finished primary school, said his second passion next to singing is make-up. “I’d love to be on stage but I’d like to have my own make-up brand and to have a YouTube channel with my sister and do makeup tutorials.”
The little boy then proceeds to tell Ellen about how he was constantly bullied and even assaulted because of his love for makeup. “In my drama group I used to get hit, punched and kicked,” he said.
“And then they went on for two months, and then after two months I try to brush it off but brushing it off doesn’t work. So I stood up to them and I told my mum.”
Ellen immediately praised the brave young boy for standing up for who he is.
With this amazing performance and recognition, his dream of becoming a YouTube makeup star might be fulfilled sooner than he’d expected.
One thing is for sure: Reuben will definitely continue to be himself and his musical performance is simply mind blowing.
