You’ve seen the tango performed in theater productions, classic films, and even live performances but there’s nothing like looking back and tracing its origin. Said to have evolved sometime in 1880 in the dance halls of Buenos Aires, the Spanish tango is described as “a light-spirited variety of flamenco merged with the milonga”. The unlikely yet genius combination of both dance styles resulted in a fast, intricate, and somewhat sexy dance.
Because of the slight (and sometimes, not so subtle) sensuality incorporated in the dance, it was only during the early 1900s that it became socially acceptable.
That’s when it suddenly blew up and became a craze in hip European circles.
It didn’t take long for the tango to take over the global dance scene.
And if you think the overall style of the dance limits its talents to an older demographic, think again.
These insanely talented kids from Russia will prove you wrong as they showcase their expertise in dancing.
In a dance tournament held in Kaliningrad, Russia, two of the young contenders had the audience in awe – mobile devices raised in the air, recording the dance, eyes closely following their every move, approving smiles, and appreciative applause.
Barely preteens, the young boy and girl took over the dance floor with their fluid movements and impressive synchronicity.
Watching their performance will make you realize there really is no room for stereotypes. Catch the way the young boy sways his hips and how smoothly he waits for his partner to take formation. The young girl’s entrance, on the other hand, shows grace, style, and confidence. Each movement caused her bright red dress to twirl beautifully, adding pizzazz to an already breathtaking number.
The duo pulled off each step with such spirit and flair that it seems they were just made to dance.
While most kids their age engage in the usual recreational activities such as sports and arts and crafts, this brilliant pair chooses to hone their potential in classic ballroom dancing.
The time, effort, and dedication it takes to learn tango and master a routine isn’t for the weak. These two are living proof of just how much hard work pays off. Apart from the choice outfits they wore, what stood out was the difference in their facial expressions which created the perfect contrast – one that really set off their number.
Moreover, the young dancers didn’t seem to look as though they were merely performing a rehearsed piece.
It was lively and captivating, and it truly took everyone by surprise.
In fact, it was a mesmerizing dance number that flowed so naturally that people couldn’t take their eyes off the pair.
The history of tango, as well as the many performances you may have seen over the years, may tell you that it is a dance more appropriate for the older ones. But flexibility plays a significant role in producing a powerful performance and this particular one was executed tastefully. The dance performance highlighted the pair’s talent, chemistry, and extraordinary stage presence – truly star quality!
