Putri Ariani is an incredibly talented teenage singer from Indonesia who recently took the stage on America’s Got Talent.
Despite being blind, the 17-year-old is fiercely determined to pursue her dreams.
She expressed,
“My biggest challenge is people look at me just as a blind person, not as a musician. But when I sing, I feel like a superstar.”
During her first visit to America, she confided her aspirations to judge Sofia Vergara and the rest of the panel.
She passionately shared,
“My dream is to become the biggest diva in the world, like Whitney Houston, and win a Grammy Award. I hope I can win America’s Got Talent.”
Hailing from Riau province, Putri’s journey began with challenges.
Born prematurely in December 2005 due to complications faced by her mother, she was diagnosed as blind just three months later.
Yet, this young Indonesian prodigy never let her disability define her limits.
For her performance, Putri showcased her multifaceted talent by playing the piano.
As she sang an original ballad titled “Loneliness”, her voice resonated with impeccable pop tones, maturity, and extraordinary control.
The audience was so moved that they gave her a standing ovation.
As her performance concluded, Simon Cowell, visibly impressed, approached the stage to meet her.
Simon’s intrigue didn’t end there.
After a brief chat with Putri’s father, he requested her to perform another song, “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word.”
Initially puzzled, Sofia soon realized the significance when Putri dedicated this Elton John and Bernie Taupin classic to Cowell.
Putri’s rendition was so captivating that the audience was left spellbound.
As she concluded her song on a high note, the entire auditorium erupted in cheers.
An awestruck Simon remarked,
“My God. Putri is just too good to be true.”
The judges were unanimous in their praise.
Sofia Vergara commented,
“We are all mesmerized by you, your voice. You’re an angel.”
Howie Mandel added,
“A lot of people don’t believe in angels, and I think one just landed on our stage. You are a superstar.”
Heidi Klum also chimed in with her admiration, saying,
“You sounded so beautiful tonight.”
Simon, clearly moved by her talent, continued his accolades.
“You’re 17. You write songs. You’ve got an amazing distinctive voice. And I mean really, really good. You have a kind of glow about you.”
Putri then shared her dream of attending Juilliard in New York, one of the world’s most prestigious performing arts schools.
In response, Simon pressed his Golden Buzzer, ensuring Putri’s journey would continue to the live shows.
Reflecting on her performance, Simon couldn’t contain his admiration.
“She’s brilliant,” he said. “You are, I think, one of the best singers we’ve ever had on our show,” he whispered to Putri as he returned to the stage to congratulate her.
