In case you didn’t know, America’s Got Talent is back and this season is different than all of the seasons before. This season, it is America’s Got Talent: The Champions.
This new season brings together the world’s most talented, memorable and all-around fan-favorite acts from past seasons of “AGT” and the other “Got Talent” franchises, spanning 194 territories.
One of the acts returning to the AGT stage is fan favorite, Bianca Ryan.
The now 24-year-old first appeared on America’s Got Talent in 2006 when she was just 11 years old. She wowed the judges with her big voice by singing the Dreamgirls show tune “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.”
Bianca Ryan went on to become the first winner of America’s Got Talent on August 17, 2006. Shortly after, she released her first album.
She actually decided to audition for AGT because she heard that American Idol judge Simon Cowell was creating a new show. Bianca just so happened to be on a family outing in New York when the NYC auditions were taking place.
To finish out the season, Bianca returned to Dreamgirls and sang “I Am Changing” for her finals performance during season 1. And it worked out well for her because she was quickly crowned the winner!
During her pre-taped interview, Bianca explained what happened to her vocal cords. She said:
“I was touring, I was doing music videos. After a few years, I noticed my voice just wasn’t working with me. I finally went to an ENT and he was like ‘basically, one of your vocal cords is paralyzed, you’re going to need surgery, and there’s a chance you’re may never be able to sing again.’ And, it felt like the moment where it was all crashing down on me.”
After having her surgery, she had to go to different speech therapists to relearn how to speak and how to sing.
Because of her surgery and recovery, Bianca started to get fewer views on YouTube and fan mail. But for the last year and a half, she has been working hard on her comeback. She said that she was ready to see the light again.
For her first performance on America’s Got Talent: The Champions, Bianca chose to sing “Say Something” by A Great Big World.
Despite the fact she had to have surgery for her paralyzed vocal cord, Bianca sounds better than ever. During the song, she was able to hit notes that most people can only dream of.
After her video got over 425,000 views on YouTube, Bianca Ryan logged onto the video platform to thank all of the people were supporting her. She wrote:
Oh my goodness. Thank you all so much for love and support. It’s been a journey but I am so excited to be back on my feet again and in good spirits I’m so happy to finally make everyone proud.
What did you think of Bianca’s singing post-paralyzed vocal cord? She still sounds so beautiful!
