Today’s pop music is led by numerous musical artists, which has helped it evolve into a more flexible genre.

One of the most iconic pop singer-songwriters is Ed Sheeran, and he has taken the pop genre to great new heights through his music.

In 2017, he released his album Divide that has more best-selling tracks in store.

The song “Perfect” is one of his best tracks on the album because of how the love song charmed people with its wholesome lyrics and wedding-ready tune.

Going further into 2017, Sheeran had one more surprise for his fans before the year ended.

Sheeran initially asked the Queen of Pop if she could perform a rendition of “Perfect” but instead, she did him one better by performing with him.

The song was lyrically the same as the original record except that in Beyoncé’s part, it was gender-swapped.

These incredible forces in the music industry has gained the spotlight in no time with this collaboration.

“Perfect Duet” sold 181,000 downloads in just the first week after its release.

Eventually, the hit racked up numerous sales and downloads in no time, managing to kick Post Malone’s “Rockstar” off the number one spot on the 2017 Billboard pop charts.

In 2018, they went to their live duet at the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 in Johannesburg.

Right away, it’s easy to see the diversity in terms of their musical styles. Sheeran remained to be faithful to his raspy, belting vocals while Beyoncé smoothed it out with her angelic voice. Despite their differing styles, their sweet dulcet sounds blended in harmony as they each sang the chorus of the song.

The internet ignited a gender debate because of their outfit during the 2018 concert.

There was even a little bit of outrage in how the two artists put in different levels of effort. In the clip, Beyoncé appeared in her extravagant, bright pink, ruffle dress while Sheeran appeared in his usual jeans, sneakers and two-layered crewneck shirts. It was a ferocious battle of whether it was the music industry’s gender-based double standard or they were just being themselves.

In the end, no one won the debate—but the audience definitely won by seeing this awesome performance.

Overwhelmed with surprise and happiness, Sheeran expressed his thoughts on his social media.

“Feels mad to say this, but I’ve had my second ever number-one single in America, one at the start at the year, one at the end,” the British singer-songwriter wrote on Instagram. “What a year it’s been. Thanks to Beyonce for giving this new version a revamp, and thanks to everyone who’s supporting it.”
