Amateur dancers who compete in dance competitions spent countless hours practicing their routines before having the confidence to show off their moves.

Professional dancers who appear on popular television shows today are also honing their craft.

However, one of the most admired and iconic dance scenes captured on film was surprisingly not rehearsed at all.

You read it right!

Fred Astaire (1899-1987), widely regarded as the most influential dancer in film history, stated that it was “the greatest dancing he had ever seen on film.”

The routine was recorded for a scene in the classic movie.

Stormy Weather, a 1943 film starring Bill Robinson and Lena Horne, was popular at the time and remains so in the classic film world. One of the film’s most notable aspects had nothing to do with its two main stars.

In the film, the Nicholas BrothersFayard (1914-2006) and Harold (1921-2000) performed one of the most acrobatically beautiful swing dance scenes to Cab Calloway’s hit song, “Jumpin’ Jive.”

In a dance performance for the ages, the Nicholas brothers dazzled audiences with their acrobatic routine.

However, what makes this scene so mind-blowing is that the brothers performed the entire routine unrehearsed and in only one take. Consider this: once again, only one take!

They’re having a good time and kicking up their heels.

They’re just having fun together and showing off their natural talent, as you can see in the video.

Thankfully, the cameraman was filming when these two brothers began their acrobatic and absolutely stunning routine.

Nicholas Brothers excelled in a variety of techniques, including “flash dancing.” They were widely regarded as the greatest tap dancers of their time, thanks to their high level of artistry and daring innovations.

Their incredible dance performance has already received over twelve million views on YouTube.

And many people commended them for their impressive routine.

“70 years later and this is just as impossibly cool and classy as it must have been back then. Truly timeless.”

One individual left a wonderful comment saying:

“This is beyond amazing, how could any dance routine be choreographed better than this. By doing this dance, the Nicholas Brothers have immortalised themselves as one of the greatest dancers of all time. They did all this in one take, if you can, watch the movie, and towards the end you will see this dance, Even Fred Astaire mentioned this is the greatest dance routine of all time.”

Over the years, their routine has inspired countless dancers.

Also, the film Stormy Weather was chosen for the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2001, for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
