Beatboxing is an incredible talent that takes a lot of practice to master.
Although you could pretty easily make some basic drum sounds, it takes significant work to learn how to make every sound that a drum kit can make—and to make multiple sounds at once! Still, there are plenty of teens and kids who have mastered this process.
And this video is another great example.
The performer in the video was professional beatboxer Jon Jon Beat, accompanied by his little cousin.
The song they decided to perform was “Señorita” by Camilla Cabello and Shawn Mendes. Although it was just a quick clip that was thrown together, it soon went viral around the globe.
Throughout the whole video, Jon Jon beatboxes like a pro while his cousin sings.
Although the original is a great track in its own right, these two completely reinvented it and added their own twist to the performance.
He starts by performing the melody before letting out a wild combination of beatboxing techniques with so many different sounds. Right away, it sounds like a techno remix of the popular song—and it’s enough to make you want to get up and dance.
Although Jon Jon sets the tone with his impressive beatboxing skills, his cousin’s voice adds a completely new layer to it as well!
The entire time, these two stay so consistent with their performance and prove that they have great chemistry together as performers.
Beatboxing enthusiasts will notice how well he did his techno bass and snare. Beyond that, he was also able to execute the rimshots and lip rolls with ease!
On the other hand, Jon Jon’s cousin doesn’t need any autotune or anything to completely nail her part of the song.
Even though the clip was shot in just an afternoon, the two of them display some impressive raw talent that definitely took the world by surprise.
But as it turns out, Jon Jon is more well-known around the world than some might think.
That’s because Jon Jon competes against other beatboxers all around the world.
Anyone who is fan of the genre may know that he’s affiliated with the community Beatbox Allstars, a beatboxing collective based out of the Phillippines. Over time, Jon Jon became a beatboxing champion and is constantly making more covers with other aspiring artists.
Fortunately, their talents are gradually getting recognized!
Since the video was uploaded to YouTube on December 10, 2019, it has been viewed more than 1.5 million times! From the recognition they received from this and other videos, they have also guested on local morning TV shows in the Phillippines where they were asked to perform their songs. Although their careers are just getting started, they’re definitely off to a good start!
In their interview, they told reporters that they just posted the video just for fun.
As it turns out, Jon Jon simply dared his younger cousin to sing the song on camera with him… and the rest is history! It’s a great thing they were able to document their musical experiment since it spread around the world and inspired everyone who saw it.
