Most moms sing to their babies.
It helps calm them, makes them feel safe, and puts them to sleep most of the time. There are also many studies that show that singing to babies can have a lot of other benefits.
One mom has been singing to her baby since he was born, and now, he likes to sing to her.
She records him as he tries to sing to make his mom happy. Mom does have to do a little coaching in the video, but as soon as the baby realizes what they are singing, he is happy to take over.
He starts singing the popular gospel song “Hallelujah.”
The song is popular with many church choirs, and many people have covered it over the years. If you aren’t familiar with the lyrics, they are:
“Now, I’ve heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don’t really care for music, do you?
It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing hallelujah
“Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
“Your faith was strong, but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the hallelujah
“Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
“You say I took the name in vain
I don’t even know the name
But if I did, well really, what’s it to you?
There’s a blaze of light in every word
It doesn’t matter which you heard
The holy or the broken hallelujah
“Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
“I did my best, it wasn’t much
I couldn’t feel, so I tried to touch
I’ve told the truth, I didn’t come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I’ll stand before the lord of song
With nothing on my tongue but hallelujah
“Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah”
Of course, this little guy may not be able to sing all the lyrics just yet, but he seems to have the chorus down pretty well.
He also seems to love to sing to his mom and make her happy. Someday, he may even sing in the church choir. By then, he will have had plenty of practice singing to his mom.
Sandra Trehub, a researcher at the University of Toronto, Mississauga, has been studying the effects that singing has on babies.
According to her studies,
“Singing keeps babies calm and can lead to stronger social bonds with parents, improved health, and even greater language fluency. Babies recognize the voice much, much earlier than they recognize a mother’s face. Voice is a very powerful stimulus for an infant.”
This little guy sure has bonded with his mom, and if they keep singing together, it looks like he will be ready to take on the world.
He is already showing great communication skills, and he has a lot of confidence to be so small.
Trehub also said,
“Music has a lot of regularity in it. You have notes and musical phrases that repeat, so that you can become captivated, almost hypnotized by it. It happens to us as adults, and it certainly could happen to infants. Even in the newborn period, infants show responsiveness to singing.”
This little guy seems to love music. But he still has a few years to go before he auditions for “American Idol” or even performs on stage at school or church. If he continues to be passionate about it as he grows up, he may find success in the music industry.
