The Republic of Azerbaijan is a small country at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia.
It’s famous for its huge underground gas deposits, mud volcanoes, their national sport (played to music) and the national Karabakh horse.
Now, you’ll probably remember this interesting country by one marvelous flash mob.
More than a hundred dancers surprised the residents of Baku.
Baku is the capital of Azerbaijan, and the flash mob happened in one of the most frequented streets of the city.
The group called Flashmob Azerbaijan, or FMA, wasn’t intimidated by the cold weather and went out to dance to two major pop hits: “Sexy And I Know It” and “Gangnam Style.”
It all begins with a young man carrying a boombox.
As he puts it on a bin, the young fellow claps his hands, demanding attention. People seem very interested in his actions and before you even know it, there is a huge crowd around him. That’s when his colleagues come to his side, and they all begin to stretch.
The goal was to first show all the athletic skills the crowd members have, and then they begin to dance.
We must admit, these young people are in perfect shape! You can see their passion for dance. Before long, the children are particularly overwhelmed with the show.
There are a lot of people watching the group’s every move, and it mostly goes for children.
They are soaking it all in without blinking. If you can relate to the feeling and want to know more about the Azerbaijan dancing squad, you can follow them on social media. FMA has got Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and a YouTube account with 45.7K subscribers on YouTube.
The group members describe themselves as very dedicated to dancing, and they promise bigger entertainment experiments in the future.
We can’t wait to see what kind of improvised and funny game they’ve been preparing for us! The moment we most enjoyed is when some of the grannies randomly started doing famous Gangnam Style moves.
You can see they are enjoying themselves, and it’s impressive how everyone wants to be part of something bigger, regardless of age.
It’s a magnificent performance, and the only problem with it is that later on both songs will be stuck in your head. In case you’ve never seen any video from Azerbaijan, this is a nice one to start with.
The level of joy, happiness, laughter and emotional punch the video has is hard to describe.
We loved to see so many young people united in making their friends, neighbors and everyone around them happy. It was filmed in 2012, though since then, we found out that Flashmob Azerbaijan has gone on to perform many more times on the streets of Baku. You’ve got to appreciate the consistency!
Their fellow citizens must be very proud of them, as they grew up to be a little sensation in Baku.
We hope that all these children who are jamming to their show take these talented young individuals as role models and take part in something equally amazing when they become older.
Azerbaijani culture is filled with riveting facts, embedded in folklore and music.
Most of the five million YouTube viewers have probably been inclined to learn more about the place where this flash mob comes from, and we advise you to do so too!
You’ll be surprised to read some facts about Azerbaijan and its people.
Isn’t it beautiful when you have such a piece of art to motivate you in learning more? We love it when it happens.
