Have you ever stared at a painting and wondered what went into painting it?
Did it take hours? Days? Months? Some of the most amazing works of art are also some of the hardest to understand and see. Artists sometimes open their studios up and let people come in and watch them paint.
Thanks to social media, more and more artists can record themselves making amazing paintings and share the process with the world.
That’s exactly what the Duane Keiser Studio recently did. Not only can you watch as the painting appears in front of your eyes, but you can see it change.
The painting starts out normal, but the artist can’t seem to make up his mind about what he wants to paint, he starts to paint a bottle of wine and even paints the wine being poured into a glass.
Then, he starts to paint the glass fuller, and as he does, the bottle seems to run empty right before our eyes.
If you pay close attention to the flower, you can see the shadow spreading and its petals open. Then, the artist makes the flower come alive and it opens in the painting. As the flower is blooming, the peach sitting in front of the flower vase starts to have bites missing from it. You don’t notice it at first because you are too busy looking at the flower, but all of a sudden, it looks like the peach has been eaten.
Then again, right before your eyes, the flower starts to wilt, the peach turns into a pit, and the painting seems to get dark.
It’s almost like you have watched the flower live and die all in a day and also watched the fruit go from a fresh, delicious snack to a dried-out peach. In a way, it’s kind of sad to witness.
You can’t help but be impressed and intrigued by what you are watching. It’s pretty rare to see a painting like this. Most of us only see the end product of a painting; to watch it actually appear before our eyes is a real treat. This is more than just a painting; this is a masterpiece, and the artist is clearly very talented.
Facebook went crazy with comments.
Some people thought it was all fake and doubted that anyone could really paint and then change these things.
Mike Griffin said:
“Bollox….. watch the mouth of the bottle being ‘painted’ the brush does a few strokes and makes a rough looking bottle and then all of a sudden it’s a photo quality pic of a bottle, even though no further work with the brush is shown…. I smell cheating!”
Other people thought the entire process was beautiful and even hated to see it undone at times.
Amber Sol commented with:
“Every time a section was drawn over I felt anxious. Undoing something beautiful, even to replace it with something new, stresses me out.”
Sarah Pegues said:
“I felt curious, annoyed, confused, then curious again … Only to relax and feel entertained … Smh, it’s amazing what an emotional rollercoaster a live painting can put us thru.”
There’s no denying that this is an amazing painting, and watching it happen gives us all a new appreciation for artists.
Now that this artist has shared his work with the world, maybe people will think about the paintings they see. Instead of just seeing the paint on the canvas, maybe they will notice the technique and thought that went into them.
