Nature is beautiful, but a lot of people don’t take the time to realize it.
If you look at all the shapes, patterns, and colors in nature, you can see how it can be used to inspire artists. A lot of artists paint pictures or make drawings of amazing landscapes, but few use nature in their art.
One artist has changed that.
James Brunt uses items like sticks, stones, shells, and other natural materials to creative works of art. He uses these objects to make spirals mandalas, circles, and more. He also builds these masterpieces in areas where people can enjoy them. Some of them are built outside schools, on beaches, along hiking trails, and even in parks.
All of the objects included in a piece were found in its location.
Or course, nature is always changing, so there is no way to protect these artworks. He snaps photos of them when they are finished as a way to immortalize his beautiful art.
He explained on his Facebook page how he makes his amazing works and his rules for how much to disturb nature:
“1. I don’t take stones away from their habitat.
“2. If working in a popular resort, that welcomes and relies on tourism, I have no issues of moving stones around on a beach. They move 2 twice a day with the tide anyway. Where possible, I collect stones from gathered piles, so not partially buried stones if I can avoid it.
“3. If I plan to work on a more sensitive site, I check. For example, last week I went to Spurn Point, a nature reserve. I contacted them first to firstly see if they objected and secondly, asked about any considerations.”
Here is even more of his amazing work:
The artist also has other hobbies.
Brunt loves to work with his hands. When he isn’t building beautiful artworks, he can be found working on Responsible Fishing UK, which is a project that he co-founded. It encourages others to use things found in nature to make art and promotes recycling. He also enjoys making large beach drawings, dominoes, and making cardboard artwork for children.
