A song that by just singing three words from the lyrics gets people smiling and singing along. Give up?
It’s definitely a classic among many classic hits that this particular band has produced. They are without a shadow of a doubt one of the most influential bands of all time. We’re talking about The Beatles. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Star. Four incredibly talented musicians who joined their many talents to create timeless, memorable, and definitely relatable music.
To this day, they still captivate and influence many would be and popular musicians. Including street musicians.
One such talent on the streets is Andrés S Macnamara. He’s a fairly good-looking bloke but it’s his talents on the piano coupled with his singing that makes people stop and watch. Like this one.
The video starts off with Macnamara, his keyboard and microphone set up, in the middle of a bustling sidewalk filled with shoppers still wearing their cold-weather clothes. Holidays ain’t over yet, folks!
He strokes on a few keys while saying,
“I’d like to do a song by… Paul McCartney, and written while he was still with The Beatles. Please feel free to sing along. Of course it’s pretty easy it just goes… Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be. So join me if you’d want.”
He’s already got a few onlookers in the back waiting for him to start playing. Pretty tall order introducing such an iconic song from a legendary band.
Andrés doesn’t seem to be fazed at all. He goes on and starts playing. The familiar melody coming from the piano is already making that gentleman in the back smile. Up until Andrés delivers the words.
“When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.”
What a voice too! Already, two women watching have their phones out recording this startling performance on the sidewalk.
With over 3 million views and counting and with 43k likes, it’s safe to say he did the song justice.
Released on March 6, 1970, the song was written and sung by Paul McCartney and is credited to the McCartney-Lennon partnership. It was to be the final single before McCartney announced his departure from the band.
Paul told James Corden during their Carpool Karaoke session that it was his late mother that inspired him to write the track. When you find out that Paul’s mother passed when he was just 14, the song takes on a whole new meaning.
The cool thing about this street performance is it is so raw. No masking talent here. His voice is charming and yet powerful, able to carry higher notes without much effort. He gets a few coins too from his adoring listeners.
Macnamara’s playing is simple yet polished without much fuss. He goes on playing and singing,
“And when the night is cloudy,
There is still a light that shines on me,
Shine on until tomorrow, let it be.”
But it looks like he’s the one shining in the middle of that busy street. And once he’s done, his audience gives him a cheerful applause with a few more coins tossed in. Andrés has that charisma to him but it is his fantastic singing that captures the attention of everyone.
The man is one of many awesome street performers who could and probably would give many of these mainstream artists a run for their money.
