It’s often a hit or miss with renditions of a popular tune.
More often than not, comparisons are drawn and usually end up in favor of the original. After all, they say that “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”, so renditions don’t always become famous.
However, a few classic songs have been revived by modern artists, and with modern styles, can be brought up to date for the current generation.
But what if a pop ballad is turned into a lovely Italian duet?
Ed Sheeran is known for some of the more beloved ballads. It’s almost like he has to be truly heartbroken for a song of his to become a major hit. Ed writes from experience, imagine that.
His hit single “Perfect” was released in 2017, and it is a very much in-love Sheeran who wrote the romantic ballad for his then wife-to-be Cherry Seaborn. Ed knew her from school and the two reconnected while Seaborn was working in New York.
The song proved to be popular, hitting the top of the charts and playlists all over the planet.
And it really is a lovely tune, with even the music video bringing listeners that warm, fuzzy feeling inside as if to share in Sheeran’s feelings.
So it couldn’t possibly be made any better. Right?
Well take a listen to Andrea and Matteo Bocelli’s version.
Both father and son look dapper as they take the stage, enjoying the cheers of the crowd with the band more than ready to play for the Italian singers. The legendary tenor and his son are about to melt hearts.
It’s really nice to see Matteo take after his father. He combines his father’s style with his own modern flavor.
Listen to the original by Ed Sheeran, then listen to the Bocellis’ version back to back. What do you think?
This lady viewer seems to love it.
“Andrea & his son are both so very talented. Love that they are singing together and their family name will go on. Such an honor and privilege to hear them. Thank you for sharing. We need more music like this in these tumultuous times.”
She’s not wrong though.
Matteo starts it off, singing in English, his rich voice serenading the crowd. And would you listen to the audience!
He sings until the end of the first chorus, then his father takes over. Andrea’s signature tone takes over in very romantic Italian. It’s hard not to fall in love with this rendition.
It’s a part that listeners would be replaying over and over again, and who can blame them?
Matteo soon joins his father, first providing background before soon turning the performance into a majestic duet. Both Bocellis seemed to be bringing the heavens down with angels crying in delight.
And should you find yourself playing this on repeat, don’t worry because we are too.
