Amelia had such a powerful voice for a 16-year-old girl.
Most kids with a passion for music and singing would already show their talent at a very young age. With the help and support of parents, young children can develop their skills and passion.
The X Factor judges and fans fell in love with a sweet and talented girl named Amelia Lily.
The teen with a powerful voice
Amelia Lily Oliver was born in Middlesborough. She’s the daughter of Aranka Bradley and Barry Oliver.
Amelia was diagnosed with T1D or Type 1 Diabetes at the age of three.
In her early childhood, little Amelia loved figure skating. But deep inside, her real passion has always been music.
At the tender age of 13, young Amelia would often spend time writing songs with her guitar. In fact, she even posted some of her videos on her YouTube channel.
She even has a cover on Adele’s song, “Someone like you.”
Lily decided it was time to pursue her dream, so she auditioned for The X Factor in Liverpool last 2011. In front of judges Tulisa, Louis Walsh, Gary Barlow, and Kelly Rowland, she sang Erma Franklin’s “Piece of My Heart.”
Everyone was shocked as they heard the teen’s voice.
She was just 16 years old, but her voice was very powerful.
The next Janis Joplin
In her unforgettable audition for X-Factor UK, everyone was amazed by how powerful her voice was. It was smooth, whole, and she was able to hit every note with finesse.
People who saw her audition reminded them of American singer-songwriter Janis Joplin.
The song Amelia sang was also popularized by Joplin.
Both singers had showcased their singing prowess in this romantic funk love song.
After her audition, the judges were surprised to know that Amelia was just 16 years old!
“People work their whole lives and take forever to get to that level that you are at now. You’ve come up that stage so much older than your years. You performed like a 30-year-old woman that has been perfecting her craft for years and years. That was amazing! You blew up the stage!” said Tulisa, one of the judges.
After X-Factor
After her journey with X Factor UK, she signed a contract with Sony. She then launched her debut single, “You Bring Me Joy“, followed by two more albums.
Her career skyrocketed when she joined the UK tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
She also joined the reality series Celebrity Big Brother.
She’s still very busy with her career and sharing awareness about T1D.
Dreams do come true, and Amelia is another proof that you can achieve your dream if you believe in yourself and you strive to be better.
