On America’s Got Talent, many acts get a chance to express themselves through song.
People often admit that music is a way for them to escape the realities of their world. It is a way for them to enter their own reality for a little bit.
That is very true for Amanda Mena. The 15-year-old singer was bullied when she moved to America with her family.
She stood out at her new school and people mocked her for being different. In order to get away from the bullying, Amanda lost herself in the music.
For her America’s Got Talent audition, Amanda brought her mother along, as her mom was her biggest supporter throughout it all.
Her mother was the main factor in how Amanda was able to overcome her bullying after they moved from the Dominican Republic to the U.S. when Amanda was 4 years old.
Amanda decided to sing Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” in order to impress the judges.
In under 20 minutes of being shared on Facebook, Amanda’s audition got 120,000 views right away, over 4,000 shares, and 10,000 likes.
One Facebook commenter praised Amanda for her talent and said:
I just got through watching your performance and I literally had goosebumps!!! You are AMAZING!!!
I am so sorry that you have been bullied, bless your heart, no one deserves to be treated that way, ever! You use your voice and rise above it all young lady, you are absolutely beautiful!!!
Meanwhile, another commenter thought Amanda had a good voice but thought that another act deserved the Golden Buzzer:
I will say I thought Mel B’s choice is a good choice but I do agree that the one guy should have got Golden Buzzer for learning the song in an hour. He was very good even before he learn the song.
Some viewers took issue with the fact that this isn’t Amanda’s first time on a reality competition.
Previously, she appeared on La Voz Kids and won the competition, which earned her a record deal with Universal Studios.
One commenter said:
Can we stop allowing those who won/were on previous tv competitions/shows come on here? There’s far too many individuals on AGT this year who have been on other shows.(@Howie and Mel B’s golden buzzer, Udi Team, Jeffrey Li, Sacred Riana, Noah Guthrie, etc….)
What do you think of this hot topic issue on AGT?
