When it comes to auditioning, there are plenty of ways to make a good first impression.
Perhaps first and foremost, the person performing has to have some kind of exceptional talent that they’re sharing with the world. If they’re singing a song, they ought to have good vocal control and a solid range that they can sing in.
To make it even more exciting, maybe they’ve picked an unusual song or brought a new twist to something everybody knows. Last but not least, maybe they’re something especially compelling about the performer’s personality.
That last one was definitely the case for one performance on The X Factor.
The performers in question were Alex and Sierra, two singers who were also dating!
They are both from Florida and loved performing music together. Before they went on stage, they explain to the cameras backstage that they have such incredible chemistry onstage that they had to audition together.
While they were a little bit nervous, the two of them definitely bolstered each other and made each other more confident.
With that, they walk out on stage and introduce themselves to the judges.
As they explain, they’ve been dating for two years and are deeply in love.
When asked what they’re going to sing, they say the song they’ve chosen is “Toxic” by Britney Spears… which definitely raises some eyebrows.
Still, they tell the crowd that the way they do it is different than most and that they both love the song. In fact, Alex knew all the words to it before the two of them even started dating! After their introduction, they’re finally ready to perform.
With that, the judges clear the way for them to perform.
After a moment, the backing acoustic music starts playing.
As soon as these two start singing, it’s clear this performance is going to be different than what anyone expected!
Although the two are very nervous, they decide to perform the song in a sultry and sensual way that definitely highlights the chemistry that these two have! While the original song is upbeat and danceable, this one is intentionally slow and dragged out… almost agonizingly so.
Needless to say, the entire crowd is on the edge of their seats!
Although both of their voices are definitely strong, it’s their delivery and their unique chemistry that really takes it over the top!
As their performance showed, sometimes it’s a combination of all the above aspects—great chemistry, great voices and a great song choice—that make an audition truly memorable.
When it’s all over, the two performers hug each other… and Sierra is so nervous onstage that she’s practically crying!
At last, it’s time for the judges to give their feedback.
Although judge Simon Cowell cut them off early, it’s clear that all the judges loved them!
First, all the judges mention how they loved the chemistry and the electricity that they brought to the stage. Finally, Cowell says that he expected the performance to be corny… but it was actually very unique and much cooler than he expected! After Alex and Sierra get their four yeses, Cowell says the final words: all you need is love! With that, they get their fourth yes.
