Alex Kinsley and Sierra Deaton were a singing group that won the third and final season of “X Factor USA.” They were also dating. The couple auditioned for the show in New Orleans, Louisiana.
They sang “Toxic” by Brittney Spears and impressed the judges. They ended up getting four yesses, and, with tears in their eyes, they were sent on to the next round.
The next song they performed was “You’re The One That I Want” from the movie “Grease.”
As usual, the couple put their own twist on the song, and the judges thought it was fun and sexy. Demi Lovato questioned their relationship as a couple, but Simon Cowell seemed to be supportive of them as both a singing duo and a couple. They made it through to their first live show.
The couple struggled during a performance of “I Knew You Were Trouble” by Taylor Swift for Big Bands Night.
Sierra was visibly upset, and while Demi said that she didn’t like the arrangement at first, she told them that by the end that had made her like it. Simon praised them for performing it so well. Despite their struggles, they made it through to the next round.
For Divas Night, the couple chose to since “Say My Name” by Destiny’s Child.
Again, the audience and judges were blown away by their ability to handle different music genres. Everyone also saw a more outspoken and sassy side of Sierra as she sang and danced to this upbeat song choice.
For their “Unplugged” song, the couple chose to sing “Say Something,” by A Great Big World.
They also both played instruments during the performance. Sierra played the piano, and Alex played the guitar. Before the performance, Sierra admitted that she had never performed the guitar on stage or in front of the crowd. Simon explained to them that adding the instruments would be risky, but they decided it was a risk they would take.
It proved to pay off, and this performance was considered one of their best. Their version of the song hit number 1 on the U.S. iTunes charts, which was the first time that a song from “X Factor USA” reached the top position.
In the semifinals, the public chose the song “Little Talks” by Of Monsters and Men for the couple.
Again, the judges had nothing but good things to say. Every show, the couple seemed to come back better and stronger, and Demi even said that she felt like she was looking at the winners. They were definitely improving and growing as performers.
Later on, in the semifinals, they decided that they really wanted to prove to everyone that they belonged there, and they went all out with a cover of Sara Bareilles’ song “Gravity.”
The judges complimented them both for their amazing vocals and pointed out that they noticed that Sierra had grown a lot during the show. Their version of “Gravity” also hit number 1 on the U.S. iTunes charts.
The couple performed “All I Want For Christmas Is You” for the final show and learned that they were the winners that night.
They went on to make an album titled “It’s About Us” and also toured. In 2015, they were dropped by their label. In 2017, the couple announced on Twitter that they were broken up as a couple and a band. They said that they both planned on pursuing solo careers and would no longer be making music together.
So far, neither has produced a solo album, but that’s not to say that they aren’t still working on them.
While their relationship might not have lasted, they still have a huge fan following. Their fans hope that they will get back together, if not as a couple as a band. Who knows what the future holds for them? Hopefully, it’s good things.
