Britain’s Got Talent 2018 was an unbelievable season that showcased some of the most amazing talents throughout the U.K. Its semi-final show brought back some faces that had wowed both audiences and judges — even hard-to-impress Simon Cowell.

Among them was Aleksander Mileusnic, a 23-year-old singer with a voice as smooth as silk.

Mileusnic took the stage for his semi-final performance with a pretty big act to follow: his own. In his first audition, he drew some amazing comments from the judges.

“I actually feel like I’m witnessing a star being born in front of me,” said Simon Cowell.

Mileusnic’s semi-final performance took his voice to a whole new level with a jazzy rendition of “No Diggity.” While it was an awesome reinvention of a pop song, Mileusnic did it perfectly with his smooth vocals. His voice is reminiscent of Michael Bublé, with a resemblance that’s unmistakable. Yet, Mileusnic clearly isn’t putting on an act or trying to emulate another singer. His classic vocals are totally his own.

He says he’s under no delusions that jazz is particularly cool at the moment.

But he doesn’t care. It’s a style of music that he loves to perform, and he’s never happy doing anything else.

Mileusnic’s performance also had new inspiration. Since his first audition, he became a father to his son, Leo. He wanted his bold example to show his son that you should always fight for your dreams.

Backed by a classic ensemble of brass, piano, drums, and standup bass, Mileusnic sang the song with an attitude that was relaxed — as all jazz should be.

He’s not at all affected. He simply enjoys the music.

The audience went wild for his performance, with the four judges even giving him a standing ovation.

Then, of course, they had a couple of things to say.

“What I like about you — and I mean this in a really good way — is that you don’t have to try too hard,” said judge Alesha Dixon. “I think your natural swag and the way you carry yourself work so well. That style is fantastic on you. My only criticism is that I think there’s even more in you. I think that we can hear more and I wanna see more, ‘cause you’re brilliant.”

Other judges gave similar criticisms, but also praised Mileusnic not just for his amazing voice, but also his style and ingenuity in making jazz something that’s totally his own.

“I think you have a great voice,” said judge Simon Cowell. “I think you’re very stylish. I think if you make it through to the finals, this is almost like the warm-up of what you’re capable of. I think you’re such a good singer. I really think you deserve a break.”

The season of Britain’s Got Talent ended with a vote by viewers.

Mileusnic didn’t win, but he did place fourth based on the vote. There’s no doubt that he gave his son the example he wanted to – always pursue your dreams.
