Raw vocals and pure acoustics are what the world of music is all about.
Great musicians come up with poetic and crafty verses, accompanying them with striking rhythms that no one has heard before. Over time, they attract bigger and bigger audiences because of their incredible artistic abilities. Though it goes without saying, Al Green is one of those great artists who has only gotten better over time.
Let’s travel back in time to witness Al Green and his good ol’ soul music.
Al Green was a skilled musician specializing in blues, R&B and soul.
He was known with the classic hits, “Take Me to the River,” “Tired of Being Alone,” “I’m Still in Love with You” and his signature song, “Let’s Stay Together.” He dominated the music charts and he was one of the biggest influences of these genres in the mid-’90s. Still, he turned to gospel music after an unfortunate incident that happened with his girlfriend.
Though Green is known for his great voice, he also has some other musical skills as well.
To prove it, check out this performance of him performing the song “Simply Beautiful.” In the year 2004, Green did a live version of his song from his 1972 album, I’m Still in Love with You.
The song was an incredible mixture of jazz, soul, and blues, which creates an aura that any music lover would love.
The emotions flowed like a river as he sang the song.
In soul music, people should be able to experience a full range of colorful emotions.
Whether the song contains implicit subjects of sadness, happiness, or rage, a soul musician should properly express all of them in an accessible, musical way.
In this live acoustic session of his, he poured his soul and emotions into a performance.
His inviting guitar and smooth vocals were invigorating.
If you are looking for a song to listen to while relaxing, then Green’s music is perfect for you.
In this song alone, he was able to display his wide array of skills as a soul musician. He sings as if he’s already lost in his music.
Though everybody already expects it from an artist like Green, he expressed so many emotions perfectly.
Through his unique delivery, he makes every line a wild ride to a new emotional place.
His beautiful expressions and vocal interpretations open a window into a whole new world of soul.
As there was someone else on the guitar lead, Green was able to slip in his strums and licks while vocalizing his choruses.
Amazingly, he’s also able to synchronize his emotions on the guitar as he plays rhythmically. Everything that you can hear from the video is indeed simply beautiful.
Why Green is a known soul legend.
From this video alone, you could already tell how one great musician he is, or you could even say one of the best musicians there is.
He deserves his fame as “one of the most gifted purveyors of soul music” as described in his spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His songs were not complicated, yet his style is so hard to imitate that you rarely see musicians like him in this modern world. What a great performance!
