When it comes to soothing music, it doesn’t get any mellower than “Africa” by Toto.
In this video, internationally renowned artist Mike Massé teams up with musician Jeff Hall to do an incredible rendition of “Africa” that took on a life of its own on YouTube.
These two teamed up to wow the crowd while playing at a local pizza shop.
If the title doesn’t jog your memory, as soon as the melody of “Africa” begins playing you’ll most likely know the tune. Released in 1988 by Toto, the catchy song spent a week as the Billboard Hot 100 #1 song as well as making the top ten in several other countries.
“Africa” has also become one of those songs that everyone loves to cover, and back in 2010, Massé and Hall became the latest to go viral for a brilliant cover of Toto’s greatest hit.
The acoustic cover at Pie Pizzeria in South Jordan, Utah begins with Massé showcasing his gorgeous voice.
That’s when he begins to sing the nostalgic song in the most beautiful and elegant tone.
Massé leads the way on the acoustic guitar while Hall plays the bass and backs up his pal with some wonderful backing vocals. Toto would be proud—you can tell from the get-go that these two really know how to rock out “Africa.”
As the song progresses, Massé lets his voice soar through the air at Pie Pizzeria and people watching can’t get enough of the talented musician.
This isn’t the first time Massé has done a breathtaking cover of a legendary rock song. In fact, he’s revered for his amazing ability in covering the greats.
Massé has a YouTube channel with 312,000 subscribers, where he posts tons of phenomenal cover performances including this one.
It’s not just people on YouTube who recognize Massé’s insane gift of covering iconic songs.
As it turns out, even the actual band Toto was impressed with his acoustic rendition of “Africa.” Other artists like Asia, Sarah McLachlan and many more have expressed gratitude for Massé’s work in covering their music.

Their cover performance at Pie Pizzeria has been viewed over 14.5 million times, with 164,000 people liking it. Beyond that, over 14,000 people have also left comments on the mesmerizing video with many of them praising their gift of covering classic music.
