Group covers Adele song using the strangest instruments
Using some stuff they found lying around in the garage, they pulled off one of the best Adele covers out there!

What do you get when you cross zippers, a surfboard, whippy tubes, tap dancing, and six crazy musicians? An Adele song, apparently.

This creative Canadian band, Walk Off the Earth, doesn’t stick to the status quo of singing and acoustic guitars for their covers.

It seems like they can turn any item into an instrument. I dare you to find something you don’t think they could use after you watch this performance!

With their friends and talented tap dancers Myles Erlick and Isaac Lupien, the group used some wild accessories to give Adele’s hit song “Hello” a new twist. And believe it or not, they put it all together in the course of one evening and then quickly recorded it in a garage.

It’s also important to me that everyone watching please take note of the puppets in the top right corner of the garage…which I’m 98% sure are puppet versions of the band.

So, let’s begin to try and break these “instruments” down.

There are a few bells, which I have to say are the only traditional instruments in sight.

The two tap dancers at either end act as the core percussionists—stomping, clapping and using the zippers of their jeans to carry the beat.

The zippers don’t really make that much noise, but they’re still a cool addition.

I guess it would be pretty weird to put a microphone anywhere near where it needed to go to enhance the sound.

Lined up along a surfboard (which is now acting like a table), the rest of the group shows off what whippy tubes can do.

I won’t lie to you, I have never heard of a whippy tube before in my life—so I had to Google it.

Turns out they go by a myriad of other names including the lasso d’amore (the lasso of love), corrugaphone and Bloogle Resonator. I swear I’m not making this up.

Sound is created when the air moves through the tube at different speeds, so the different colors and sizes have different pitches. Pretty cool!

I will note that this information came from a children’s science website, so I can only assume one of the band members has some young kids at home.

They seem to be having about as much fun as a bunch of kids anyway!

The first chorus is sung by the lead singer, who has a strong, somewhat raspy voice that can effortlessly fill a room.

When you’re covering Adele, you have to have the chops to keep up though, don’t you? Then the only woman in the group takes over for the second verse. I would also like to point out that she’s so small they’ve propped her up on a little block or toolbox so she can stand at a similar height to all the boys.

It’s incredible how she makes it look so easy to sing so calmly while spinning that plastic lasso d’amore (clearly the best name for it) around with such force.

But okay, it gets even cooler.

We’ve seen whippy tubes, bells, zippers and knee-slapping. Just when you think they’ve used every possible instrument in sight, one of the tap dancers raises the stakes.

Out of nowhere, he pulls out an incredible high kick that reaches to touch the ceiling where a hidden cymbal is hanging.

It makes the most dramatic *crash* that you didn’t even realize the song needed.

Then both of the dancers take some time to solo freestyle and show off their slick moves.

There’s no question that this has to be the coolest, most creative and most beautiful cover of “Hello” out there!
