Mackenzie Johnson is a name you might not have heard before.
She represents a bright example of a YouTube musician who became a legit star by posting great content. The new millenium has brought us a lot of new possibilities, and one of the most exciting is how easy it is for the world to hear your voice.
Needless to say, Mackenzie will amaze you with her delivery of Adele’s 2016 hit song “When We Were Young.”
Johnson created her YouTube channel in 2010, but it took her a year to find the courage and post her first video.
She’s a 27-year-old Philly native singer-songwriter, and she loves to wear many hats. Although her cover of “I Will Follow You Into the Dark” is officially her first published video, it’s not the only one that garnered millions of views.
Her YouTube channel has over half a million subscribers, and 15,300 fans follow her on Instagram.
Mackenzie’s YouTube page is filled with covers of most popular musicians such as Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Bruce Springsteen, Dolly Parton and Billie Eilish. Interestingly, Mackenzie’s cover of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” is one of her most popular videos.
In 2014, Johnson even performed “A Little More” with Eric Hutchinson in Central Park.
Some of her original songs are also available on Mackenzie’s channel.
The girl nailed all the tricky notes, especially the one towards the end.
As the video begins Mackenzie is in her room, with the lights and colors giving off a vintage vibe. She’s wearing a hat and her guitar is at the ready. This beautiful, talented lady has an angelic voice, and it seems like every song suits her.
The soothing effect is incredible, especially when you know that her powerful voice is about to reach even better heights by the end of the song.
Mackenzie sounds so much like Adele in this one, and all of her odd notes were executed perfectly.
This is by far one of the best covers of Adele’s songs we’ve ever heard!
Her tone is clear and her voice adds to the essence of the song. This is such a raw, beautiful cover. It was posted in 2015, and more than a million people have seen it so far.
In all honestly, Mackenzie rocked it!
Her style of singing is so pleasant—she has a unique and soothing voice that tackles all the lilts and tilts, just like Adele does. Then again, Mackenzie makes it all sound her own, just like true artists do.
Judging by people’s comments, Johnson has created a version that comes very close to the original.
Some even offered her a virtual hug for making the song sound so beautiful!
As Mackenzie explained, Ernie Ball’s ukulele strings help her a lot with crafting her sound.
We’ve found all that from Ernie Ball short film where Mackenzie was the main star. She discussed her life in New York City, the perks of being a musician, and explained in a bit more detail why the ukulele is an interesting instrument for her.
“I take every song in an interesting direction,” says Mackenzie.
She definitely does, and we have to applaud her creativity. Thanks, Mackenzie, for making a great cover of a great song—and all the best with your future work!
