The hardest part about singing competitions for contestants is making a song sound their own.
In order to stand out, many people choose to sing original songs.
But original songs do not always work out. Sometimes people are much better singers than they are songwriters.
Ada Vox didn’t need to write her own song for her performance on American Idol. She was able to make the song all her own.
Typically, singers chose music that fits in with the theme that they are going for. But often, the best performances come out of nowhere and are not what you’d expect.
Ada Vox is full of personality. That is her whole thing! In season 12, she auditioned as Adam Sanders and things did not go well for her then.
But when she came back for season 16, she was finally able to be herself and it was exactly what the judges wanted to see.
For her American Idol 2018 Showcase performance, Ada Vox picked Radiohead’s song “Creep.”
The 1993 hit is a very mellow and soft rock song. It was the debut single for Radiohead and helped them launch into superstardom.
“Creep” isn’t exactly a song you’d guess Ada Vox would sing just from looking at her, but the lyrics feel fitting based on where she’s been so far.
After her failed run on American Idol in 2012, she struggled with online bullying and felt that she didn’t belong anywhere.
Ada was able to make the lyrics to “Creep” her own and she had the audience and judges on their feet shouting for her.
But I’m a creep, I’m a weirdo.
What the hell am I doing here?
I don’t belong here.I don’t care if it hurts
I want to have control
I want a perfect body
I want a perfect soul
During her performance, Ada Vox had a vocal run that literally will strike a chord with you as you watch it.
Surely we can only listen to Ada’s version of this song moving forward, right?
At this stage in the American Idol came, the judges needed to narrow the contestants from 50 to 24 to get The Final 24. Did Ada make the cut?
Of course, as if that was even a question! However, judge Katy Perry did warn Ada not to get too gimmicky and said:
“If you turn to many tricks, the tricks turn on you.”

If you’re only just getting caught up on American Idol now (where have you been), then you need to see Ada Vox’s first introduction to American Idol.
And I mean, before she was Ada and was was just Adam Sanders from Texas in season 12.
Since then, Ada has come into herself and found her voice. Now, she is already a star and the competition on American Idol is still early.
Since then, Adam has become Ada and the transformation is exactly what was needed. Ada’s confidence is contagious!
