Acro-dancers Dana Rühm and Oliver Edelmann will knock your socks off. A performance they posted in 2017 has over 3 million views because people simply can’t stop watching their epic performance.
The duo performed their mind-boggling routine to the song “Heartbeats,” by the artist Ryk, from the album Fables.
The adrenaline starts pumping early as the opening moves take place on train tracks.
And while we know there’s no death-defying oncoming train, the body movement combined with the fact that they’re both barefoot on asphalt and metal has us wondering just how our body would hold up under such conditions. (Our guess is it just wouldn’t.)
Backbends, splits, and aerial lifts (often performed at the same time) characterize this acro-dance.
Rühm and Edelmann move around effortlessly and even though our backs are cracking just looking at them, somehow they also manage to make it look easy!
There are moments reminiscent of ballet, lyrical dance, gymnastics, acrobatics – even cheerleading! – in their routine, which takes place in 4 different locations throughout the video.
Frankly, we’re relieved when the stage gets a little more grassy (although they must have some VERY tough feet).
The acrobatic moves continue with more lifts and splits, but this time Edelmann also shows off an immense amount of strength as he single-handedly holds up his partner’s body weight, balances her perfectly, and even lowers himself to the ground with his arm still extended upwards!
We don’t know what kind of training this takes, but we imagine there’s quite a lot of it!
From the soft grass to what appears to be the stable of a very old building, these two continue to stretch, bend, twist, and flow in beautiful motion.
“The level of skill balance and trust is amazing it is so easy to see when they flow so gracefully and without hesitation,” marveled one commenter.
While some commenters didn’t feel like there was enough emotion between the dancers, we’d like to see them try to pull off even one of those lifts or balances with a smile. This is athletics!
We’re not surprised that Edelmann’s Facebook page reveals that he recently wrapped season three of Ninja Warrior Germany.
The duo finishes their routine in a most incredible location – the top of a castle tower.
With the help of drone footage, we not only get close-ups of their seamless moves but a wider shot of the whole area that makes the performance even more magical.
As you might imagine, most viewers were focused on Rühm’s mind-boggling flexibility:
“As I was watching this I was thinking there is no angle she can’t bend her body! This was incredible!!! True talent.”
The same year the video was posted, the duo competed at the Flanders International Acro Cup (FIAC) World Cup series event. While they wowed the audience and judges they came in 5th place. Can you imagine 4 couples that can pull this sort of routine off with more talent?!
Nevertheless, they were still the 3-time Bavarian champions and continued to compete in senior class international competitions.
When the video first went viral in the weeks after it was posted, the duo likely had no doubt it would blow up even bigger.
“Holy moly! We got over 100,000 views. Thanks to every one of you!!!” Edelmann posted a little over a month after it went online.
He didn’t know that was only the beginning and hundreds of thousands more people would eventually marvel at the duo’s talent from around the globe.
