The popularity of “Achy Breaky Heart” allowed for country artists to bring other genres, specifically pop, into country music.
Billy Ray knew he had a hit on his hands and before the music video was even released a line dance for the song had been created.
Billy Ray Cyrus and Mercury Records sent the line dance steps to all the country clubs they could, to create a national dance contest. The winner would win a trip to Nashville, Tennessee and a chance to be on television. The dance contest took off and line dancers were already dancing to the song before it hit the radio.
The line dance was more popular than the song at first!
Country line dancers have not stopped dancing to “Achy Breaky Heart” ever since.
The line dance and song became a hit and not just in the United States, it was a hit all over the world. The dance was created 28 years ago, in 1992, and a country line dancing club in Germany is still performing it in front of crowds.
The Line Dance Stompers are from the Emmendingen area in Germany and perform line dances for festivals and other occasions.
Twelve Line Dance Stompers dressed in their country best broke out the classic steps for a fun time.
The twelve women have their cowgirl hats on and are ready to show the audience their achy breaky best line dance. What is so catchy about this specific line dance is how simple it is compared to other line dances. The step sheet, found here, looks complicated but after watching these dancers go a few times, you will realize it is a lot easier than it seems on paper.
One of the greatest parts of learning a line dance is having people doing the exact same steps next to you on the dance floor, a little peaking over at others never hurts.
“Achy Breaky Heart” is one of those songs that is only meant for a great time.
It is a fun dance song that everyone can enjoy, that is one of the reasons Billy Ray Cyrus still loves the song.
Billy Ray explains that he released the song when, “People were divided … Basically, it felt like a good time for a happy song. Something simple that everyone could sing and yes, even dance to. Take your mind off all the heavy stuff for 3 minutes and 27 seconds!”
The Line Dance Stompers dance a great performance. It is a fun video to just watch and enjoy, but also a great video for learning the dance yourself. It was not created as a tutorial but it definitely can be one. The twelve dancers are separated enough that you can see every step.
It does not hurt that they are all great line dancers!
