THUNK acappella and F15 (Freshman Fifteen) are the two Northwestern University groups in question.

THUNK, formerly known as Melodious Thunk, was formed in 1993. Meanwhile, F15 is Northwestern Uni’s all-male acapella group that was founded in 1998.

Both have been gigantic in acapella competitive scenes before, but the two groups now focus their voices on several Cape Town projects—and most importantly, on community outreach performances.

In recent years, these two groups have done many performances together, and all of those shows were truly phenomenal.

One of the biggest collaborations was their fall show in 2017.

The two groups prepared five songs in their fall-themed collaboration, although one of the most memorable of all of them was Bishop Briggs’ “River.”

It was their final performance of the night and was one of the best acapella performances you’ll ever see!

THUNK and F15 were already back to wearing their respective uniforms when they sang their final song.

The group kicked off with the women’s catchy vocalization of the repeated lyrics “like a river” while accented by an exhilarating backbeat. Alexa Moster from THUNK was up front as a solo lead vocalist for the song, and she was just waiting for the perfect opportunity as the rest of the crew built up the rhythm.

THUNK and F15 prove that there’s no need for actual instruments to make incredible music!

The lead vocalist claims the spotlight the moment she opens her mouth on-stage.

Her mid-ranged pitch has the kind of strength that is just mesmerizing to hear. Aside from her, the rest of the team do a great job accompanying her with harmonies while they sway in place behind her.

Vocalist Alexa shows true passion with her unique and colorful tones!

She was able to produce clean vibratos and even belt out notes with enormous power without even messing up one bit!

The show is one of the most enjoyable performances we’ve ever watched!

Alexa continued to skim through the lyrics with her seamless vocal runs while everyone behind her gave it their all to have her back.

In the later part of the performance, the vocalist grabs her mic and joins the rest of the group for their finale. You can see everyone making the beat by clapping their hands and stomping as Alexa belts her way to the end. After the show, both groups huddle up together on-stage to celebrate their successful show.

The THUNK x F15 collaboration sang “Me and Mr. Jones” by Amy Winehouse, “Do You Wanna Do Nothing With Me?” By Lawrence, “Geek in The Pink” by Jason Mraz and a mashup between “The Only Exception” by Paramore and Anna Nalick’s “Breath” before singing their awesome finale.

Even if the coronavirus pandemic has stopped us all from seeing live music, performances like this one on YouTube remind us of what we have to look forward to once it’s all over. We may not be able to sing this well ourselves, but we can appreciate real talent when we see it!
