Jean Veloz is a 93-year-old actress and dancer who first debuted a hit dance routine “One Girl and Two Boys” in the movie Swing Fever.
Jean earned her role in the film by winning a Hollywood-based dance competition
She quite literally danced her way to stardom!
With a lifetime spent dedicated to swing dancing, Jean was even inducted into the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame and was invited to dance in Munich, Germany.
Held annually in Los Angeles, Camp Hollywood is a swing dance festival boasting both modern and classic styles of swing.
The video begins with an introduction from the event’s host. She truly does give the warmest welcome to Jean, the evening’s star entertainment!
It turns out even Steve Harvey was impressed with Jean!
He wanted her to dance on his show Little Big Shots: Forever Young. He didn’t want just any dance, though. Steve Harvey wanted Jean to recreate the same dance from seven decades earlier! She was only 19 at the time.
At the young age of 93, Jean agreed to the performance. Age definitely can’t slow her down!
Jean begins her performance alongside Steve Conrad and Joel Plys, two men who are ready to support her in whatever way possible—but it looks like she’s the one outdancing them!
With over seven decades in between performances, Jean still remembered every move to a tee! The routine consists of a series of twirls and fast-paced steps. Jean rotates between the two partners. The men catch a break, but Jean surely doesn’t!
We have to give them all credit. This trio is rocking it!
She dances along for the entire two-and-a-half-minute performance.
It’s amazing that Jean was a star on the big screen so many years ago, and that the group remembered and wanted to honor her today. What’s even better is that she’s just as good as she ever was!
74 years later, and she’s still stealing hearts—talk about a workout!
As her movie performance is displayed on the screen behind her, Jean is able to dance alongside her 19-year-old self.
She’s even boasting a similar outfit, with her 1940s naval-inspired top.
Her dance moves have not aged a day.
With over 700,000 views and hundreds of comments on YouTube alone, Jean has become a worldwide sensation, inspiring many to get off the couch and bust their own moves, in the privacy of their own homes, of course.
Jean is truly an inspiration—we can only hope to be this limber at 93!
As it turns out, Jean has even helped revitalize swing culture on an international level.
Lindy Hop has had a global comeback in recent years, and swing classes are being offered all over the world. With its fast-paced steps and energetic routines, swing dance may just be the form of exercise we didn’t know we needed.
Who needs Pilates when you can get out on the floor and cut a rug
We can only hope to be as vivacious as Jean! Maybe we should sign up for a swing dance class or two…
Even so, a good start is to watch this video a few times and try to repeat the moves in your own living room. You’ll be bopping to the beat in no time!
