Whether you’re a Taylor Swift fan or not it’s hard to front on the fact that “Shake It Off” is a damn good song. It’s got a funky beat and catchy lyrics that just make you want to dance.
And that’s exactly what the folks at the Julia Wallace Retirement Village in New Zealand did.
The retirees at this retirement home are quite the fun bunch. According to Daily Mail, they released a flash mob viral video dance to Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” in 2014 and a nude calendar for charity in 2015. So, you know their next endeavor is going to be good.
These folks, whose average age is about 82, went viral once again after making their own version of Swift’s video for “Shake It Off.”
And just like Swift’s video, the Julia Wallace Retirement Village’s version is filled with lots of fun costumes, scene changes, and fun dance moves.
The video currently has more than 4 million views on YouTube.
“Fifty residents, staff and grandchildren from Julia Wallace Retirement Village spent a week making this special tribute to Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off,” the video’s caption reads. “With an average of 82 and a combined of more than 4,000 years, these retirees proved you’re never too old to Shake It Off and have loads of fun.”
And these folks sure know how to have a good time. Special needs teacher Margaret Gregory plays the lead roll in the video as Swift.
“It was a great team effort with everyone here and I’ve never laughed so much,” she told Stuff. “It’s certainly not what I thought I’d ever be doing in a retirement village.”
Margaret’s husband, Gerald, was also in the video and played a hip-hop dancer and trombonist.
“We came home every night tired but elated from filming,” he said. “I pay a lot more attention to tv now because I’m always trying to work out how they made the scenes.”
All these players definitely played and gave us a perfect example of how you are never too old to have fun and shake it off!
“Go out on a limb and you might just create a little bit of magic,” the retirement village wrote on their Facebook page. “Julia Wallace Retirement Village residents did just that – launching the Shake it Off video. So much delight on everyone’s faces.”
