Some people are born with talent, and others get their skill through practice. But no matter which camp you fall into, it helps to have a supportive family.
When you have natural perfect pitch, a groove in your bones, or an eye for colors, it’s no good if you’re not being encouraged to do it.
Eseniia Mikheeva here is a fantastic dancer, and it’s all thanks to her household.
The 7-year-old Russian dance prodigy made headlines. She appeared on the Jennifer Hudson show to demonstrate just how good she is.
Eseniia was accompanied by her father to sit next to Hudson. Her mother sat in the audience. Eseniia’s family are true-born Russians, but immigrated to the United States.
This isn’t her first time on TV either.
Eseniia’s sharp moves landed her on America’s Got Talent during season 18, where was eliminated during the semifinals.
But winning ATG isn’t the only way to make a name for yourself. Her appearance as a contestant did enough publicity for her, and she still etched out a career as a pro dancer despite not winning.
That skill is thanks to her parents being dance teachers themselves. Theirs is a supportive household, and they taught and encouraged Eseniia to dance since she was 7 months-old.
In fact, Jennifer is even taken aback by this. We hear stories of naturally-talented and very skilled children a lot, but to meet one in person must be a different thing altogether.
Eseniia dances to every style, so she’s got a versatile skillset. Some of her favorite styles are ballet and contemporary.
It’s also important to be passionate about what you’re doing. In her own words, it has to come from the heart.
So let’s see this heartful dance that she’s talking about. After all, you don’t introduce yourself as a dancer on a show and not give us a taste, right?
The studio on Jennifer Hudson’s show has the lights and the music that Eseniia needs. It also helps that she was almost literally born ready.
This one’s going to be an electric hip-hop performance. Eseniia’s small size allow her to be super energetic and bouncy – way more than a grown-up doing the same dance can be.
She pops off, locking and twisting, popping and crumping with all the energy her 7-year-old body can muster.
All those lessons and encouragement from mom and dad are paying off.
Jennifer is impressed, and the audience is impressed. This girl’s already performing for audiences on live TV, and she’s still in 2nd grade. Can you imagine how far she’ll get if she keeps going?
Oh, and just to make sure the audience is still impressed, she ends the routine with a backflip. That got quite the cheer from them.
Eseniia is a force to be reckoned with, and she’s still got many more years to hone her craft even more.
