Who doesn’t love to dance? Okay, you might not like showing off your dance moves if they don’t come naturally for you. But even so, it feels good to get out there and just kick up your heels.
As we get older, a lot of different types of physical activities become more difficult. For instance, you might find your morning somewhat more challenging, or perhaps climbing the stairs isn’t as easy is it once was. And the same is true with dancing – it gets harder for most people as they get older.
Not giving up
But just because something is difficult doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it, right? After all, age is just a number. Getting older shouldn’t stop you from doing the things you enjoy.
An inspirational teacher
Shirley Clements is a Canadian high school teacher. Sure, she’s in her 60s but she seems much younger. This woman isn’t the type of individual to sit on the sidelines when all the younger people are having fun.
She loves to dance
Clements loves to dance and she’s not afraid to show it. That’s why she’s willing to show off her moves whenever she gets the chance. That includes dancing with her students.
A video goes viral
A few years ago, a video of Clements and her students surfaced on the internet. It received a ton of views – like millions – and people couldn’t get enough of it. It proves just how much she loves to dance and even more exciting, how she shares the passion with her students.
Uptown Funk
In this video, you can see a bunch of students lining up to dance. “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson starts playing. All of a sudden, you realize that Clements is going to dance along with them.
A strong start
Right away, Clements is tearing up the dance floor. She hits the beat perfectly to which the crowd goes wild. She might even be one of the best dancers in the group.
Perfect timing
You can tell Clements knows what she’s doing because she has perfect timing. Throughout the entire number, she keeps up with the music’s fast tempo. As you watch her move, it’s obvious she’s been dancing her whole life.
The crowd can’t get enough
As the dance goes on, the steps get increasingly more complicated. You might expect Clements to bow out at some point and let the students finish. But that never happens. Instead, she’s determined to make it to the end of the song…and she does.
An impressive finish
Toward the end of the dance, Clements does something you wouldn’t expect. At the very last moment, she does a headstand. Not only that but she manages to spin herself around while still on her head. Now, that’s a trick that even most young people can’t do.
Everyone’s cheering
As you’d expect, the crowd freaks out after Clements’ fantastic move. All of the students she was dancing with, as well as those watching, crowd around her while cheering. And she certainly deserves the attention considering the impressive performance she just gave.
You can see this video for yourself. It’s incredible to watch a 60-year-old woman who easily keeps up with her much younger students. Who knows, this video might encourage you to get involved with something you love.
