Toby-Jay, Ollie, Joey, Beau and Adam are the 5 Star Boys. Together, they stand on stage with a message that it’s okay for boys who dance.
The boys range from ten to twelve years old, and they exude that classic 90’s boy band feel with their bright faces and blue and white jackets.
The boys come from all over the U.K. It was a dance convention in Birmingham that saw them forge friendships and eventually group together. An initial interview with Simon revealed their intentions.
Beau, 12, told the four judges, “It’s not always easy for us.”
Toby, 11, then added, “We kind of just say to ourselves, ‘we know we’re better than them’, but boys can dance if they want to, it’s not going to affect anyone else and they’re just people that are jealous of you.”
The boys had the audience and the judges nodding in approval.
Their performance hit all the right feels with a mixture of interpretative, gymnastics, and ballet. Dancing to “You Will Be Found” from the hit musical “Dear Evan Hansen”, the boys had the entire London Palladium audience on their feet.
The four judges, Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon, were really trying to hide their emotions.
It truly was a well thought out, and impressively put together dance.
The message that young boys can dance their hearts out without being judged resonated throughout the audition, and these young lads have outdone themselves.
Dancer Toby-Jay, 11-years-old said, “The message we want to get out there is that it’s OK for boys to dance because it’s not just a girls’ sport.”
He went on to add, “No matter what people say, just carry on what you’re doing because it’s what you love.”
10-year-old Alex struggled at school where he was often told that “dancing was for girls.”
“I used to come home crying. It used to hurt me a lot. Now [that] I’m on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ it might just stop,” he shared.
Well now it’s the crowd they’ve got crying.
What did the judges have to say about their striking dance?
Alesha was trying to hold back tears as the routine ended. She told the boys, “Collectively, you were just stunning and I loved everything about it.”
Then an emotional Amanda commented, “Oh my god you’ve reduced me to tears, I thought it was an extraordinary piece and I just think you should feel enormously proud of yourselves because it was beautiful.”
David Walliams described the audition as “perfect”.
Simon Cowell thought it was “the best audition we’ve seen all day”.
“Wow, you know there was something about you when you walked out and I know this is tough, what you told us, but I promise you, you stand there now as five strong boys, who can say to all of those idiots, ‘you can’t do what we just did’,” he said.
No, they can’t. And because of this amazing dance, the 5 Star Boys got 4 YESES!
