Boy bands are alive and well, especially in the U.K. where 5 boys are trying to forge a career in music.
They’ve already appeared on Series 12 of Britain’s Got Talent in 2018 and made it to the semi-finals under the name “Made Up North.” Telling the judges of their aspirations, the boys said someday they wanted to be “as big as One Direction” – a lofty goal!
A big break
The 5 boys in the group all hail from different cities in the U.K. but were brought together by a music teacher attempting to create a boy band.
Over 500 boys from the north of England auditioned, but only Harry Steel, 12, from Nottinghamshire; 11-year-old Max Ferguson, from Darlington; Toby McTurk, 12, from Bridlington; Oscar Williams, 13, from Colne in Lancashire, and Felix Yates, 12, of Barnsley had what it took.
While some of the judges were ready to sign them up for a recording contract on the show, Simon Cowell knew they weren’t yet ready, saying:
“I wouldn’t even put you through that. What this is is preparation for where you could be, because these five guys could end up in a big show in the West End which is perfect for you. And then when you’re ready, if you stick together, you’d have the best training in the world.”
A Million Dreams
They performed the song “A Million Dreams,” from The Greatest Showman, in the semi-final of BGT, but it’s a rehearsal video that’s by far the most popular performance on their YouTube channel. It has topped 1 million views since it was uploaded.

It’s not quite the same version they sang on stage, but it’s quite beautiful and shows off their voices – and ability to harmonize – very well.
And while they might look like they’re in a relaxed situation alone in a room, you can see in the mirror that there are at least 3 adults standing by, two with cameras pointed at them.
Oscar is the first to begin.
And we’d say he looks pretty darn proud of himself when after he nails those first few lines.
Max is next and looks a little more pensive, but little Felix manages to eke out the most passion while he sings his solo.
Once all 5 boys are singing, you can clearly hear how well they complement one another and why their sound has been called “angelic.”
“holy crap. not very many singing videos give me goose bumps but this one did easily,” said one viewer.
Onward to stardom
Like so many of us, the boys’ plans have been derailed by COVID-19, since there’s been no opportunity to tour, although they have performed live with Il Divo in the past.
But the boys insist they’re all great friends and are really looking forward to their futures together as a group.
We expect to hear more from them in the future and the boys have released an EP with seven songs, one of which is the song from the video.
