There is nothing more impressive and adorable than watching toddlers do something impressive.
Especially doing something that you as a grown-up are not even able to do. There are a lot of incredible toddlers around the world, some with incredible skills, such as speaking multiple languages, snowboarding, dancing salsa, and so on.
But have you ever seen twin toddlers doing professional figure skating?
There are already not many people who are able to do general ice-skating, and even fewer adults who can actually figure skate. Figure skating is a type of sport where people perform on ice. It is a discipline that requires jumps, spins, lifts, and throws and can be done alone or with a partner. Figure skating is practiced on an Olympic level, and there are rules regarding the skating, as well as the types of competitions. During the off-seasons, many skaters also skate in ice shows. So, if toddlers are able to do it, you know they have some incredible skills.
The 4-year-old twins, Dakota and Katarina Delcamp, performed a routine to the famous Nutcracker together.
The Nutcracker ballet is a performance based on the story of “The Nutcracker and the King of Mice,” which was written by E.T.A. Hoffman. Although the stage performance is different from what the story was originally about, the plot is pretty much the same. It tells the story of a young girl from Germany who has dreams of a nutcracker prince and about the battles they face against the Mouse King, which has seven heads. It is set around Christmas Eve and discusses romantic love.
The Nutcracker then became a ballet of two acts, and the famous Tchaikovsky put the story of Hoffman into music.
Originally, it was Marius Petipa who choreographed the entire performance, and Ivan Vsevolozhsky, director of the Moscow Imperial Theatres, commissioned the ballet in 1891.
It wasn’t until approximately 100 years later that the Nutcracker becomes a famous Christmas holiday tradition. According to the Nutcracker ballet website, Lewis Segal of the Los Angeles Times described the Nutcracker as “lively and resourceful with an unusual array of bright, painted backdrops adding to the Christmas cheer…disarmingly poetic…faultless mastery of the steps…bravura expertise.”
Alastair Macaulay, chief dance critic, described the Nutcracker to the New York Times in 2010 as the following:
“The Russian ballet style is elegant, expansive, brimful with feeling, knockout male dancer…confers an unusual thrill, and… Kids…were wide-eyed with delight.”
In this YouTube video, the two 4-year-olds performed an impressive routine to the Nutcracker while figure skating, which, as seen in the video, is quite impressive. The two toddlers are not only extremely adorable but also left many people in awe with their stunning and elegant performance.
Aside from their beautiful performance and exquisite figure skating skills, the toddlers had some great moves.
At the end of the show, Katarina turns to the audience to give them a final wave and blow them a kiss, as both twins pose dramatically.
The video was recorded in December 2008 during a Christmas ice skating performance show. It has over 4 million views.
Today, the skaters are almost 14 years old.
The best part is that although they both grew up, they still remained on the ice.
Dakota became an ice hockey player, and Katarina has been qualified as a juvenile level figure skater to represent the Southwest at the Midwestern Sectional Championships.
