It’s not every day that you get to witness a talented musician’s performance – especially when you’re just out and about.
However, this is a common scene at the St. Pancras Train Station in London, where travelers are often treated to mini piano concerts as they wait for their connections.
The station is home to two pianos, and some of the musicians who grace them with their skills are so incredibly gifted that they might inadvertently cause some travelers to miss their trains!
Among these gifted musicians is Brendan Kavanagh, widely known as Dr. K.
A man of many talents, Dr. K is a teacher, entrepreneur, author, and professional pianist.
Several years ago, he joined forces with another pianist, Jim Hammond, for a Boogie Woogie jam session at the train station.
At first, it appeared to be a typical performance.
Dr. K took a seat beside Jim Hammond and began playing, while a bystander in a jean jacket observed from a distance.
It was clear from the start that these guys were good!
Their fingers tapped the keys at lightning speed, producing a lively Boogie Woogie duet.
But then it went to another level.
Moments later, the “observer” (Rusty Lupton) gave a nod, approached the piano, and seamlessly joined the performance without missing a single beat.
It was nothing short of awe-inspiring!
Not only were they extremely talented, but three people on a piano?
That is definitely a rare occurrence!
Boogie Woogie is a piano-based blues style that rose to popularity in the 1920s.
Dr. K is committed to preserving this lively and upbeat style by both teaching and performing at various public venues throughout London.
Occasionally, he even dons a costume and surprises onlookers with his skills for tickling the ivories.
Nonetheless, this particular performance at the train station stands out.
Witnessing this exceptionally talented trio perform in unison is an absolute delight.
They are tightly squeezed in front of the piano with their hands moving swiftly on the keys.
There’s so much talent on the piano that, naturally, passersby stop to watch.
The trio doesn’t just stay still either.
During the fun Boogie Woogie session, the guys move positions, each taking a turn on different parts of the instrument, all without missing a beat.
It’s really a blast to watch! Who knew you could get so many hands on a piano?
Not only was the crowd mesmerized by the performance, but the internet has fallen in love with it too.
One viewer commented:
“If I could clap so they could hear me I would. They are wonderful.”
Another person wrote:
“it is officially on my bucket list to hear this dude in person someday.!…LOVED IT AS ALWAYS DR. K.!!!..”
In a world where disheartening news often takes center stage, it is incredibly uplifting to see gifted individuals harnessing their talents to bring joy to others.
Dr. K and his musical companions are doing exactly that.
