It’s no secret that music is extremely power and can bring up a lot of hefty emotions in everyone. Even little children can be very touched by the right notes, as one two-year-old toddler from Linköping, Sweden proved.
The two-year-old Ed Selden starts getting very emotional when his father puts on the world famous opera piece ‘O mio babbino caro’ from the 1918 opera Gianni Schicchi from Puccini.
As soon as the first note hits, the two-year-old starts weeping. The aria from the opera is about the main character Lauretta that just revealed a sense of anguish and despair because there are a lot of tensions between her father and the family of the boy she loves, Rinuccio. It’s strikingly similar to the story of Romeo & Juliette and is one of the most popular opera pieces of all time.
Little Ed is clearly hit with emotions that the aria brings up. Scientists have been studying the power of music on our emotions and have concluded for now that sad music such as O mio babbino caro can stir up partially positive emotions such as peacefulness, tenderness, and nostalgia.
His father Tor was in turn touched by his son’s emotions and published a video of it online. “It shows what kind of emotions beautiful music can create, even in small children.”
