Boogie Woogie is more than just a fun thing to say. It’s actually many things, including a style of jazz piano, and a prominent style of swing dancing. And that, ladies and gentlemen is what we’re here to appreciate today.
It’s a style that’s fun, energetic and sometimes surprisingly acrobatic!
In the realm of the piano, Boogie Woogie pertains more to an improvised style of playing wherein players take turns tickling the ivories and play different parts of the piano at once. Regarding the dance style however, that too is often a little less than choreographed. As a social dance it can be a lead-dance rather than choreographed with one dancer leading the other through each part of a routine.
It is also a common competition style, and dancers compete all over the world.
Including, two time Boogie Woogie World Champions, Sondre Olsen-Bye, and Tanya Georgiievska. They’ve been making waves in the world of competitive dance for some time, specifically in Boogie Woogie, but occasionally branching out into other styles such as “Lindy Hop” and “Solo Jazz”.
As a couple, they can always have their favorite activity, AND their favorite person too anywhere in the world!
One shining moment for the couple was this first place performance from the Boogie Woogie Fast Final.
And watching the video, it’s no surprise that they took home the first prize. They have what is obviously a connection that transcends most dancing duos and you can see their true connection shine through.
The first thing you’ll notice is how quickly they can move!
Prepare to be mesmerized as they move their feet at lightning-fast speed. The way that they bounce around is enough to inspire you with awe at their fitness. Forget skipping rope to shave off a few pounds, just take up Boogie Woogie, and that will be fitness regiment enough! The couple bring such enthusiasm and energy to an already lively song.
And it’s not just fancy footwork either!
Their whole routine is extremely dynamic. Ducking under each other’s legs, coordinating interesting hand and arm moves leaves your jaw on the floor as you contemplate how a dancing couple can be 100% talent, and at the same time 100% rigorous rehearsals. There is no way you can get this good without a serious amount of practice!
Remember those acrobatics I was talking about?
Well you’re sure to be blown away with how this couple can turn what could be a simple dance into a routine with high-flying maneuvers like you’ve never seen. Warning: Sondre may make flipping your partner upside down and between your legs look easy, but make no mistake, you should NOT try this at home!
Well I don’t know about you, but I am out of breath after watching those two do what they do best.
