The singing reality show The Voice has always attracted the best and most talented singers in the country.
The fact that these are “blind auditions,” with the judges facing away from the contestants so they only hear singing voices, makes the show more appealing because of its unbiased process.
It doesn’t matter how they look or how old they are, every contestant is given an equal opportunity on this show.
One of these contestants includes 15-year-old Ryley Tate Wilson.
Ryley is a young singer from the state of Alabama influenced highly by R&B singers like Steve Lacy, Ritt Momney, and Frank Ocean.
The Voice judges, however, had a hard time getting past the fact that Ryley was only 15 years old.
Kelly Clarkson’s jaw dropped as well as the new judges, Chance and Niall Horan.
Niall Horan is a member of the former pop group, One Direction, and he started his career auditioning on The X Factor at the age of 16.
He knew how nerve-wracking it was to sing and audition in front of a huge audience. Niall was so impressed, though because, even if Ryley was nervous, the nerves weren’t obvious.
In fact, all the judges were so impressed with Ryley’s audition.
They were so amazed at how such a young singer could deliver a strong and controlled performance. They all agreed that Ryley owned that song.
“It’s so nice to hear a 15-year-old have that confidence in their own ability. You have that storyteller element to your voice from the second you opened your mouth,” Niall told Ryley.
Kelly was actually the first chair to turn around because the moment she heard his voice, she thought it was insanely incredible.
When Niall saw Kelly’s chair turn, he hit his button right at that moment because he didn’t want to miss out on this opportunity.
Although the judges banter a lot with each other to keep the show interesting, they always know when there’s a singer (or singers) worth fighting for.
Ryley is one of those singers.
“Your runs were crazy good. They weren’t planned, they were felt. If you’re feeling that at 15, wow,” Kelly exclaimed.
Kelly was fighting hard to convince Ryley to join her team because Ryley’s performance was a four-chair turn.
Yes, all the judges’ chairs turned.
Blake Shelton’s chair turned. Even Chance’s chair turned almost at the last minute. He almost didn’t make it but he pushed that button in time.
Blake and Chance do not perform the same genre of music as Ryley, who sings more R&B and pop music. Blake is a country music star while Chance is a rapper.
However, it did not stop them from turning around because, as coaches, they have that musical foundation that every music genre is based on.
No matter which coach Ryley chooses, he will be in the right hands to help develop his talent.
