The 12 Tenors is a musical ensemble made up of a dozen male singers that have something in common – they’re all unbelievably talented. The group amazes crowds around the globe with spectacular performances, where they put spins on the most popular classics.
While The 12 Tenors has produced many renditions that have left people breathless, there’s one in particular that spread like wildfire on the internet.
The members performed the spine-tingling tune “You Raise Me Up” in front of a seated crowd. It’s a song that’s known for touching people’s hearts on its own. However, The 12 Tenors’ version is so magnificent it’s been watched (very fittingly) over 12 million times.
The music group is made up of singers that come from a variety of countries, who also differ when it comes to their personal lives and vocal strengths.
12 Tenors has been gathering fans for more than a decade. They’ve made many achievements, including releasing albums and performing concerts in Japan, China, and Europe. On their Facebook page, it explains:
“The secret to their success is undoubtedly the common goal which they have always pursued over the years: to inspire their audience with their captivating passion for music!”
Despite the fact that their name is “The 12 Tenors,” it doesn’t mean that all their shows feature a dozen high opera voices.
They do have singers with this ability, but there are also members who are talented in the genres of musical theater, rock, and pop. They’ve covered legendary artists like Queen, Michael Jackson, and even created a moving version of “Imagine.”
The 12 Tenors’ concerts are a mixture of songs – all combined with entertaining choreography, a band, and a stunning light show. According to their page, “this show promises a roller coaster of emotions!”
One performance that was emotionally moving is when they sang their rendition of “You Raise Me Up.” It starts with a darkened stage and the 12 vocalists lined in a row.
They beautifully belt out the first notes of the song together, sounding like a heavenly choir. But then one of the men steps forward.
The group member sings the first lyrics as a solo with the other “tenors” joining in and providing soft musical assistance. All together they sing the chilling line… “You raise me up to more than I can be.”
With each passing moment, the performance goes to new heights. After a second touching solo, all of The 12 Tenors jump in and create a powerful scene.
The group’s incredible talent mixed with a song as emotional as “You Raise Me Up” is enough to cause goosebumps. It’s an act you really have to see for yourself.
